Free FAFSA Assistance for Northeast Indiana Residents

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Several Northeast Indiana organizations are partnering with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s Big Goal Collaborative to offer free support to students and families in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Filling out the FAFSA, a government form that streamlines the college financial aid process, is a must to qualify for assistance, scholarships and other sources of funding that reduce the burdens of student loans. The deadline to submit the FAFSA is March 10.

The free FAFSA support will be offered at various locations in Allen County and DeKalb County from January through March.

Trained personnel from K-12 and regional higher education institutions will be volunteering their time to support this initiative. The goal of this program is to help increase the number of students in Northeast Indiana completing the FAFSA, which will connect more individuals to post-secondary opportunities and help the region meet its Big Goal of 60 percent post-secondary credential and degree attainment by 2025.

“By offering this free FAFSA assistance support, we are creating a region that supports the educational success of every individual while developing a dependable and reliable workforce to meet the needs of regional employers,” said Wylie Sirk, director of educational leadership at IPFW and member of the Big Goal Collaborative’s High School Action Team.

All students and families in Northeast Indiana are invited to attend and take advantage of the free assistance offered at various locations throughout the region.

“To reach the Big Goal, we must remove any and all obstacles to college access. The free FAFSA assistance program ensures that we are helping those who wish to continue their education. In Northeast Indiana, it’s programs like this that develop talent, increase educational attainment and support our regional employers’ need for a talented workforce,” said Domini Martin-Urban, associate director of regional initiatives for the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.

As part of ongoing collaborations aligned with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s Vision 2020 Initiative and the Big Goal Collaborative, collaborating partners include the Allen County and DeKalb County College and Career Success Coalitions, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), the Allen County Public Library, Indiana Department of Education, Indiana Youth Institute, Ivy Tech Community College Northeast, Fort Wayne Community Schools, Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, Northeast Indiana Works, Olin B. and Desta Schwab Foundation, Questa Education Foundation, Region 8 Education Service Center, SCAN and Southwest Allen County Schools.
