QUESTA QUOTES....      August/September 2016 Edition

A DIGITAL NEWSLETTER BROUGHT TO YOU BY QUESTA EDUCATION FOUNDATION
NEW QUESTA TRADITIONAL SCHOLARS 2016-2017

The Questa Education Foundation is proud to announce the 2016-2017 Questa Scholars who will receive financial support for their college educations. This year was another record-setting year with almost 350 completed applications from all over our eleven county region in Northeast Indiana.  Thanks to our collaborative programming with communities, seventy Traditional Scholars have been awarded low-interest forgivable loans in the first phase of our award year.  Contemporary Scholars are eligible for funding throughout the year.  More information on this program will be forthcoming.

The intent of this funding is to help increase access and completion of a post-secondary education with reduced debt and to retain talent in Northeast Indiana. Questa Scholars get a commitment and assurance of funding for up to four years of college at an accredited public or private non-profit school.  Scholars are chosen via a multi-level assessment process based on not only grade point average, but also community involvement and an essay explaining how they plan to contribute to the economy of Northeast Indiana as a Questa graduate.

This year we are proud to announce that Adams and LaGrange Counties have become more active inQuesta, along with other communities, and as a result more scholars from those counties have been awarded funds.  Questa continues to seek new and innovative partnerships to help increase our number of scholars - for example, our partnerships with the Hispanic Leadership Coalition of Northeast Indiana, Latinos Count, and the BUILD project/Urban League.

THE EMERGING TREND IN HIGHER EDUCATION

" The Association for Nontraditional Students in Higher Education (ANTSHE) reports that students who are over 25 make up 47 percent of the new and returning student population on many of today's college campuses."

Questa Education Foundation has programs designed to meet the growing needs of those seeking an education beyond high school - including adults.

These programs include our Contemporary Scholars programs (Contemporary Scholar, Guadalupe Callejas, is pictured above) that help with Trade/Industry Certifications, Associate and Bachelor degrees, or specialized programs that utilize working adults' tuition reimbursement through an employer/Questa collaboration.

"Questa has recognized that there is a huge pool of talent right in our own backyard," says Executive Director, Marc Levy.  "We want our adult/returning students to be able to complete their education with less debt.  We are working hand-in-hand with local community organizations and employers to keep our educated workforce here.  Anyone who wants more information on how to partner with us on these efforts, please contact us directly."

PBS39 PrimeTime 39 October

Questa Education Foundation, along with Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana were proud sponsors of PBS39's Education Week which aired from September 12 - 17.  Executive Director Marc Levy, along with Jerrilee Mosier Chancellor- Northeast Region Ivy Tech, will appear on the area's "only in-depth...weekly news, analysis and cultural update forum", PrimeTime 39 on Friday, October 21st at 7:30pm. This program is hosted by PBS39's President/General Manager, Bruce Haines.

Although this segment is taped and live interaction will not be possible, "Primetime39 features local newsmakers and provides a...forum for you to learn more about your community and the people who are influencing and effecting change and growth right here in northeast Indiana."
